What Actually Happens During a Scalp Facial
It is a wash. A very good one.
A scalp facial borrows the name from skincare, and the comparison is fair enough: it is a cleanse, done properly, on skin that normally gets two rushed minutes in the shower. That is genuinely all it is.
It is not a treatment for anything. It will not stop hair falling out, thicken it, or clear a scalp condition — and if you have one of those, a dermatologist is who you need. What it will do is leave your scalp cleaner than you can get it at home, and give you an hour with nothing to do. Both of those are worth the money on their own.
Here is what the hour actually consists of, step by step, so you know what you are booking.
1. A consultation, and a look
We ask what your scalp does — tight by the evening, oily by day two, tender in one spot, reacts to fragrance. If you would like it, we can take a closer look with a scalp camera, which is mostly just interesting.
We are not diagnosing anything and we will not pretend to. If something looks like it wants a doctor, we will say so plainly, and we will still give you a lovely hour.
2. The double cleanse
Two washes rather than one. The first lifts product, oil and everything the day has deposited; the second actually cleans the skin underneath, which the first never gets to.
Fingertips, warm water, and far longer than you would ever spend on it yourself — this is the part most people underestimate. The rinse is longer too, because leftover product is the commonest reason a scalp feels coated a day later.
3. The massage
Scalp, then neck and shoulders, slowly. No phone, nobody talking at you, nothing to attend to.
This is the part people describe afterwards, and the part that is genuinely impossible to do for yourself — not because of any technique, but because you cannot relax and be the one doing it at the same time.
4. Oils, warmth and the finish
Botanical oils and a warm towel, chosen for how they feel and smell rather than for anything they claim to do. If a scent is not for you, say so — mid-treatment is completely fine, we would rather change it than have you lie there disliking it.
Then a rinse, and a towel dry or a simple blow dry, whichever you prefer.
Luxury Scalp Facial Experience at Zelene Head Spa
Our Frisco spa, and the others across the metroplex, are set up for exactly this: quiet rooms, water at the right temperature, and a team who have done this several thousand times.
Tell us at booking if your scalp is sensitive, sore or flaking, or if you are using anything a doctor has prescribed. We will keep the pressure light, change the formulas, work around anything tender, and we will never suggest you stop a treatment someone qualified has given you.
